Individual therapy can provide a dedicated space for you to work towards your therapeutic goals in a focused way. Who do I work with? See more about the clients I help here.
If you are looking for style of therapy that will help you get more connected to your body to explore your life experiences from alternative perspectives to gain new insights – but don’t feel ready for a group setting yet – then individual therapy sessions are what you are looking for.
Currently I am offering individual therapy in a few ways:
Drama & Play Therapy sessions: for the more artistically inclined, step into your creativity as a way to process your life experiences. Book a free consult below. More info HERE.
Talk-based therapy sessions: this is a more traditional style of therapy session however I might integrate a text based or somatically-informed exercise from time to time. Book a free consult below.
Poetry Therapy sessions: something in between talk-based and creative sessions. In these sessions you can bring in your own writing or poetry to discuss or let the therapist choose the poems we work with as a jumping off point in your therapeutic journey. Book a free consult below. More info HERE.
I am happy to discuss any concerns or questions you may have about getting started in therapy during a free consultation where I can answer your questions, discuss rates for services, and determine if I would be a good fit for your goals. If you decide to work with me, your first scheduled therapy session will be an intake session where we can discuss your goals and specific concerns in greater detail to get an overview of what an individualized therapeutic plan might look like for your specific needs. Hi, I’m Venus (she/they), a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) & trained Creative Arts Therapist specialized in Drama Therapy, Poetry (Narrative) & Play-Based Therapy. I integrate these mind-body focused therapies into my work as a Registered Psychotherapist.
Have you ever felt like there was more to the story of you?
If you have feelings of anger, depression, sadness or hopelessness, or self-define as a person who rushes to help others, ‘people please’/’fawn’ or feel that you ‘self-abandon’ in relationships, somatically informed therapies such as Drama Therapy can often help to reset the nervous system. This type of approach used in psychotherapy sessions is fundamentally trauma-informed so that you can share your story from a position of strength, building self-compassion towards post-traumatic growth.
Think Joy Drama Therapy Philosophy
As a Drama Therapist, I have certain ways of guiding clients in therapeutic exercises which allows me to work with a variety of client concerns from mental health concerns, emotional expression and relational issues or patterns. I use creative exploration, metaphor and objects to move clients through challenging subject matter. These ways of working help clients to explore different perspectives from a position of strength and authenticity.
The way I will approach working with you will be highly individualized to your goals regarding why you are seeking therapy at this time. I continue to do my own learning about trauma’s affects on the nervous system from an intergenerational/cultural-systemic and developmental perspective and will meet you where you are on your own journey to understanding yourself, your identity, your experiences in loss and grief, and any personal challenges you would like to address in therapy sessions.

I am always seeking to improve on my knowledge in order to provide a therapeutic experience where you will feel validated, empowered and most importantly, feel safe enough to be witnessed in your personal struggles and your creative explorations. I believe that creative explorations offer individuals an outlet to express difficult feelings and memories, to explore new perspectives, and to build a personal experience of self-understanding and enhance post-traumatic growth. I offer different options for individualized therapy from talk-based to more engaged creative expression and also offer a variety of group therapy options.
